Description:  Our client, a $2 billion publicly-held company based in New York, seeks a Controller. Primary responsibilities include review and monitoring of the company's operating units and corporate functions. Hands-on assistance is required in developing staff, implementing changes, and enforcing policies and procedures. Responsibilities include project-oriented tasks, which require co-ordination with operational and accounting groups of subsidiaries focusing on asset management, cost control, and other projects. The position is expected to add value by proactively identifying and analyzing issues and communicating them to senior management. Principal Responsibilities:
  • Financial statements and close process
  • Internal controls
  • Staff development
  • Cost containment
  • SOX 404 coordination and control; guide controllers and their staff to ensure self-assessment, efficiencies in performing controls, preparing documentation, and effective testing
  • External Audit coordination and control; work with controllers to identify and resolve audit issues and ensure effective use of auditor's time
  • IT Systems; ensure the business have the right tools in a controlled environment
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to all accounting processes and controls
  • Administrative and approval responsibilities; senior level staff salary and performance reviews, personnel hires, promotions, and salary increases
  • Review variances and anomalies in monthly reports (example: summary of operations, P/L reports, accounts receivable, and inventory) with divisional controllers
Special Projects:
  • Assist throughout the entire company which involves working with various subsidiaries, divisions and/or accounting groups
  • Monitor accounts receivable credit and collections
  • Monitor inventory levels
  • Review of divisional results with an emphasis on overhead levels and develop cost containment programs
  • Assist in financial analysis of potential acquisitions and other ventures.
Requirements:  A Bachelor's degree and a CPA are required; a MBA is preferred. Approximately 10 years of experience of increasing responsibility is needed. The experience will be comprised of a combination of pubic accounting and private industry. Excellent technical financial skills are required with a wide view toward business application. Interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail are critical. You must be self-motivated, mature and be a self-starter. You must possess good intuitive judgment, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to present information to management, strong computer knowledge, and the ability to innovate in a fast-paced environment.
